Welcome to St. John Lutheran Church

I am planning an Advent Bible Study for all church members via ZOOM on Wednesday Evenings during Advent. If you are interested in meet for a study using ZOOM please email me at LC_Pastor@centurylink.net and I will send you an invitation to the study. We will be talking about the Advent Conspiracy idea (adventconspiracy.org) --Worship Fully, Spend Less, Give More, Love All.

Pastor Russell

Once again I must announce that we are suspending in person church worship, beginning on November 15th.

Bishop Satterlee sent out a letter (https://www.mittensynod.org/news/bishop-satterlees-update-on-covid-19-2/)  Strongly recommending churches to “suspend indoor in-person worship starting November 15.”   As we study the current trend of COVID 19 cases in our area, we discover that over the past month the cases have become more numerous and stories of illness more prevalent within our community than before.  https://www.dhd10.org/coronavirus/covid19-county-profiles/

We must concede that currently there is a greater risk of becoming ill, and it becomes wiser to not invite our gathering at church to become a place of transmission for this illness.  We may be willing to assume the risk for our own health, but we also must consider the danger of  becoming a risk for someone else.

Due to current trends, our church council favors suspending in person worship beginning on Sunday November 15th and continuing through and including Sunday December 6. Following December 6th we will assess our situation, and hopefully if the infection rate has diminished we will return to worship on December 13th

I intend to continue sharing sermons and devotional thoughts over the internet and our phone calling system.  Please check our webpage, https://www.stjohnlakecity.org/ , My BLOG https://revrussellblog.wordpress.com/ , and our Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/St-Johns-Lutheran-Church-Lake-City-MI-421206134644758  for information, sermons, and Bible Study opportunities.

I know that this is not how we want to live, but with patience I believe we will eventually reach the other side of this pandemic.  We will still find God’s presence and blessings within each day.  We will be able to care for the needs of those around us and experience life in God’s love in the most profound ways.   As the Apostle Paul once said,  Romans 8:37-39 37  No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. 38  For I am convinced that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor rulers, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers,
39  nor height, nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.” For Paul I believe that the hardships and difficulties he faced only revealed to him God’s greater love for him.  Amidst all the question may we anchor ourselves upon this truth as well.

Peace, wellbeing, good health, and life be with you!
